So the Sadly I was Right part first

Written by on 10/11/2016

Remember the friends of mine who sold their house and moved out of state, paid off home mortgage here and paid cash for house there with enough left over to get completely out of consumer debt and live reasonably well going forward on SS money?

Remember how I said they weren’t going to do that..I predicted they would blow it all decorating their beautiful home with beautiful brand new furnishings?

Yeah. She just sent me pix. Now i just have to figure out a one-liner I can use next year when they can’t make ends meet because their minimum payments are bigger than their income. Something less rude than “gee, sorry you completely blew your one opportunity.”

Now the Fortunately I was Wrong Part. There wasn’t as much taken out in taxes as I thought, and we don’t qualify for medical benefits yet, so we have a little extra for the next 8 paychecks (including the one today.)

Although I would love to stockpile that cash, we are probably going to bite the bullet this month and spend about $1200 buying a good, used motorcycle for DH to commute to and from work. It will make this month really tight, but we will save $500 a MONTH in gas alone.

If we can really SAVE it (versus, say, SPENDING IT) we could have $2500 in the bank before medical insurance deductions kick in on November 1.

Even after the medical kicks in, saving that huge amount of gas $ will really help. Obviously there are some months he won’t be able to take it, but it will be great while he can.

Oh, and DS17 found a job!! Amazing what happens when you turn 18/have graduated from high school and they don’t have to deal with Minor-Age labor laws anymore.
